Koppell Seeking Applications for Community Board VacanciesDear Friends, I am pleased to announce that I am currently seeking applications from people who are interested in serving on Community Boards 7,8, or 12. Applicants must either live, work, have a business, professional, or other significant interest in the area served by the community board. While I will seriously consider recommending for reappointment existing members who have shown their commitment to the community, I will also be seeking new members to introduce new ideas and perspectives. Under the New York City Charter, community boards have specific responsibilities relating to the delivery of municipal services, the city budget, land use, and zoning. The duties of a board member include participating in important decisions concerning the social, economic, health, and safety needs of the community. Applications are available in my district office, 3636 Waldo Avenue, or online at bronxboropres.nyc.gov . The deadline for submitting applications to my office is January 21, 2004. I share the selection process with the Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. Copies can also be sent to the Borough President's office, 851 Grand Concourse, Bronx, New York 10451. Community Boards provide an opportunity for grassroots participation in the governmental process that directly affects local neighborhoods. In order for them to function effectively, it is essential that individuals concerned with the welfare of their communities serve on the boards. I would, therefore, like to invite civic minded people, interested in having their voices heard, to apply for membership on their local community board. Thank you. Very truly yours, G. Oliver Koppell |
