
The Bronx County Chapter is the founding chapter of the New York State
Society of Professional Engineers, Inc. (NYSSPE).
We are the local chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

Visit our new
forum/discussion board. In addition to general discussions and meeting
information, we have arranged for announcements of commercial offerings of PDH
courses. Currently, postings are there from Marzzo
Engineering & Educational Services and from Professional Engineering
Continuing Education.

History of the
New York City Water Supply System
Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E.
The presentation will provide a review of the New York City water supply system from colonial days to the present and include a discussion of the planning for the future needs of New York City.
The seminar is
approved for 2 PDHs by PIE.
Mr. Miele is a self-employed Consulting Engineer
& Professional Planner. He received a B.C.E. from Polytechnic Institute of
N.Y. in 1955. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) New York; New
Jersey; Florida Licensed Professional Planner (P.P.) New Jersey Chartered Civil
Engineer (CEng, FICE) United Kingdom
He was Commissioner, New York City Board of Standards &
Appeals (2002 - 2005); Commissioner, New York City Department of Environmental
Protection (1996 - 2002); Commissioner, New York City Department of Buildings
(1994-1996); Commissioner, New York City Planning Commission (1990-1994); and
Commissioner, New York City Coastal Commission (1990-1994). As a
Professional Engineer and Professional Planner in private practice between 1960
and 1994, he engaged in design, consulting and forensic engineering of all types
of structures and sanitary engineering facilities including commercial and
industrial structures, dwellings, highways, sewers and sewage treatment
facilities and waterfront structures (1955-1994) He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
Reserve in 1957; commissioned in the Civil Engineer Corps and served on
continuous active and inactive duty until retired in 1988 as Rear Admiral, New
York Naval Militia and Captain, U.S. Navy Reserve. He is currently an officer
and member of numerous national and international professional and civic
organizations.
Fees: Meeting and facility
fee: $15 PDH fee: $5 for members, $35 for
non-members. Non-members can join and save. (To join: download
the membership application, fill it in and either send it in, keeping a
copy, or bring it to the meeting. If you send it in, bring the copy to
the meeting.
Place:
Manhattan College, Leo Engineering Building (3825 Corlear Ave, betw. 238th
and 240th Sts., 1 block west of Broadway, Bronx, NY 10463) in the
Scala Auditorium on the first floor. Parking
available. The Leo Engineering
building is convenient to the IRT #1 stop at 238th St., the Maj.
Deegan Expressway at Van Cortlandt Park So, and the Henry Hudson Pkwy at
Broadway.

Engineers across all engineering disciplines and all employment areas:

We hold monthly meetings from September through
June. Our meetings are informal, sociable events which include informative
talks and facility tours. Other key programs are coordination of the local
Engineers' Week Dinner in February, scholarships for high school students
entering engineering study, and promotion of legislation benefiting the
profession and general public.
