Seventh Annual Mathcounts Competition Scheduled in the BronxOn Tuesday afternoon/evening, February 9 the Bronx County Chapter will again host the Mathcounts competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. It will be held at Lehman College. If your school, or your student's school has not registered, they can do so until Dec. 31, 2009. Hurry! Fourth Annual Mathcounts Competition Scheduled in the BronxOn Saturday, February 10, 2007 the Bronx County Chapter again hosted the Mathcounts competition for 7th and 8th grade students. It will be held at Lehman College. Second Annual Mathcounts Competition Scheduled in the BronxOn February 5, 2005, the Bronx County Chapter again hosted the Mathcounts competition for 7th and 8th grade students. Here's the press release: MATHCOUNTS COMPETITION FEB 7, 2004 AT LEHMAN COLLEGEBronx, NY, Jan 30, 2005 - The MATHCOUNTS in the BRONX competition is scheduled for 9:00 AM, Saturday February 5, 2005 in the Faculty Dining Room located in the Music Building at Lehman College. Eight schools have registered for the event. MATHCOUNTS is the national mathematics competition for 7th and 8th grade students similar in concept to the Spelling Bee. The mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase enthusiasm for enhanced achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States. Schools that register for MATHCOUNTS receive material for coaching students and conducting a school level competition. A team of four is selected by each school to compete in the local Bronx competition. The top three teams in the Bronx competition advance to the New York State competition and the top four scorers in the state competition advance to the National competition. The previous National competition was televised on ESPN. The Saturday competition will begin with two hours of written tests to determine the three teams that will advance. The highlight of the competition will be the Countdown Round at 12 noon. The countdown round is a "Jeopardy" style face-to-face competition among the top competitors in the written round to determine the top individual and is great fun for competitors and guests. Teachers and other educators and P.E.'s interested in participating in or volunteering for MATHCOUNTS should contact Mr. Gee Eng, PE, by email at mathcounts@BxNSPE.org. ABOUT NYSSPE: The New York State Society of Professional Engineers is the organization of engineering professionals from all disciplines that promotes the ethical, competent and lawful practice of engineering. Part of the organization's mission is to encourage its member Professional Engineers (P.E.'s) to utilize their expertise to help their community. As part of that effort, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is a Founding Sponsor of MATHCOUNTS and the Bronx County Chapter organizes the local "Mathcounts in the Bronx" competition.
January 8, 2004 The Bronx County Chapter will be running the Mathcounts program in the Bronx this year. This is the first year that more than one Bronx school will be participating in the National Mathcounts competition. The schools that have registered are:

AM to 12 Noon at Lehman College.
Mathcounts is a national math coaching and competition program for 7th and 8th
grade students similar in concept to the National Spelling Bee. Competitions
are held at the school level, local, state and national finals.
Also, math teachers interested in organizing a mathcounts program for
their school in the Bronx can request to observe the event.
